Established in 1971 by Pete "Snakey Jake" Johnson our local store has been the backbone of most local and some international Bands and musicians. Originally opened as a small store and workshop producing custom built PA equipment and other music gear (Hence the name CUSTOM AMPLIFICATION), Custom Amp grew into a successful business producing and renting gear to some of the big names of the time like "The Drifters" and "The Three Degrees" as well as operating multiple stores in local cities.

As times changed so the business changed, slowing moving away from custom built PA gear as British made gave way to the cheaper foreign made rage. Pete and the company moved back to his original love of Early blues music and vintage guitars. We now operate as a small store again providing everything from cheaper starter equipment and the everyday bits you need (strings etc) to our specialist range of vintage guitars and equipment.

Over the years of operating the shop was known for its knowledge in the guitar field, even stores from London would send guitars for us to fix or value. Since then we have amassed a good collection of vintage spares which we provide along with the years of knowledge to any collector or dealer.
